Lately, I find myself wondering if anything I do matters? Does God really “see me”? In my alone moments of doubt and fear, I catch myself wondering if my life and work really matters to God.

Can you relate?

One day I was talking with my mentor and she spoke these very encouraging words into my heart and soul: Jayme, you are not an accident, you have a God-purpose and everything you and I do matters to God.

As the conversation continued she shared the stories of her own doubts and victories and then we turned to God’s Word to draw closer to God and learn more about Him.

“By the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing. So on the seventh day, he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

Genesis 2:2-3

God the Creator

God is the Creator, the worker, and on that seventh day he rested from his work.

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat.’” Genesis 2:15

God put Adam in the garden and asked Adam to work.

As a result, I was reminded of how these verses tell us that God cares about work. He is the Creator of everything, so he cares about the work to which we dedicate our hands, our feet, and our minds.

How encouraging! Everything you do matters to him.

God Sees

Maybe you are preparing for school or work today. Maybe you are just getting off a night shift at the hospital. Maybe you are watching the sunrise after tending to a fussy baby all night. Whether you do it for a living, or you do it for love, you are pouring into people and God sees the work you do.

It’s possible you use your hands to clean or craft or dig or type. Be encouraged! He knows you by name. He created you and he is longing for you to use what you have, with excellence, to the rhythm of Heaven.

“Whatever you do, do with all your heart unto the Lord, not unto man.” Colossians 3:23

You and I  know someone else who had a job. Jesus came to this earth with a job to do. He ministered to those in need (whether they knew it or not), he took care of his family, and he earned a living with his hands. Then he sent the Holy Spirit to work in us to guide us and comfort us. And right now, at the right hand of God the Father, Jesus is still working. He is interceding for us 24 hours a day.

I am encouraged to know that the work of my hands matters just as much to the Creator as the first six days of his own. God sees my work and yours. He uses it, blesses it, and multiplies it.

We can “entrust our souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.” 1 Peter 4:19

I love this encouragement today! Lately the Lord has impressed on me that “he chose (me) in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight” (Eph. 1:4) and “it is God who works in (me) to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Phil. 2:13). He has a marvelous plan and work for me to do! He chose me specifically….before the foundation of the world…to walk rightly before him and to do the work he has for me to do, all to fulfill his purpose for me. Your words bring that back to me this morning. Even when I am weary and it feels like I am not accomplishing anything of true value and things don’t go as quickly a I would like…this is the day He laid out for me, with specific things for me to do. What I do does matter to Him. Thanks for your wisdom, Jayme! Love you!
