Do you wish you could change a few things in your life? Are you seeking a mentoring relationship to help you grow in the right direction?
Many times the person sitting on the other side of the coffee table from me will say: “I want more. I want to grow and change and thrive and not miss one thing God has for me. I get so frustrated with myself.” Another person seeking a mentor my share with me: “I feel like a toddler learning to walk. I take two steps forward and one step back. I’m constantly tripping and messing up. I’ll have a little growth spurt and then I fall off the wagon. Why can’t I get my act together?”
I smile. Growth doesn’t happen overnight. Like the Bible says,
“You can’t force these things. They only come about through my Spirit” (Zechariah 4:5–6 MSG).
Mentoring isn’t magic—it’s the work of the Holy Spirit in your heart that will change you from the inside out as we journey doing life together.
“Life is like a good workout,” Christine Foord writes. “The most growth happens when you are struggling, and you can’t expect to make progress without getting a little sore.” The problem is, none of us like feeling the burn! In these moments, it’s easy to throw in the towel. To tuck tail and run back to the couch. But the easiest option isn’t always the best one.[easy-tweet tweet=”Trusting the process of mentoring is critical. To grow up, you have to show up. ” hashtags=”#FTFMentoring”]
More than any other environment, meeting with your mentor offers the opportunity to experience God’s grace and unconditional love, to work out authentic issues in real-time, through gut-honest conversations. Refusing to say “I’m fine” when inside our hearts are ripped in two. Trusting our mentor with our pain, confusion, and questions. Daring to live in the now—in the messy. In the failures. The disappointments.[easy-tweet tweet=”Whatever it is God is calling you to, mentoring is a key part of getting there.” user=”@JaymeHull” hashtags=”#FTFMentoring”]
Mentoring will propel you forward. Mentors can be your support and help in times of need, and in the ordinary moments of life too.
4 Ways a Mentor Moves you FORWARD in your Life:
- Improves your discernment as you receive godly wise counsel
- Grows your courage to walk away from the worldly issues and follow Christ
- Standing firm in your faith rather than compromising
- Negative confusion begins to fade and is replaced with God’s truth
My prayer is that you will embrace a new level of authenticity as your way of living in a mentoring relationship. If you take the risk to let yourself be seen and known by your mentor, if you keep showing up and being honest, you will begin to see your life change forever.
