“For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God…” 2 Timothy 1:6

Do you need to be encouraged? Has your fire for God somehow gotten stuck on low to barely glowing? Have you been wondering what it means to be on fire for the Lord?

What does it mean to fan into flame? Let’s amplify the words: to rekindle the embers of, to keep burning the inner fire of your soul, to stir up, to maintain the fire ablaze.

In the book of Second Timothy, the writer Paul shares how to maintain your courage as you are challenged to keep the fire burning for others to see hope and salvation.

Today: Read 2 Timothy

Day 1: Reread Chapter 1: 1-9

Verse 5: Ladies, do not underestimate your influence on your children, grandchildren or the ones around you. Your testimony for Jesus Christ is very important and can change the hearts of people.

Verse 7: Underline this verse. God does not give us a spirit of “fear” but instead He gives to us a spirit of “power”, of “love” and of a “sound mind”. I strongly suggest you pray this over yourself and the lives of your loved ones.

Verse 8: Do not be ASHAMED

Verse 9: As Christians we are called to live a holy life.

Day 2: Reread Chapter 1:10-18

Verse 12: Pray for the strength to say like Paul: “I am convinced that God is able!”

Verse 14: Do you believe God and the good deposit he has entrusted to you? Are you guarding your life for God? Do you pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guard and guide you?

Day 3: Reread Chapter 2:1-13

Verse 5: THIS IS A VERY POWERFUL VERSE FOR ALL OF US TO PONDER AND LIVE BY. SHARE THIS VERSE WITH ANYONE WHO PLAYS LIFE BUT DOESN’T WANT TO FOLLOW THE RULES.

Verse 7: Reflect on this and the Lord will give you insight.

Day 4: Reread Chapter 2:14-26

Verse 15: Do your best, be not ashamed and handle the word of truth correctly.

Verse 16: Avoid godless chatter. Ouch!

Verse 22: Flee from the evil desires of your youth

Verse 25: repentance leads to the knowledge of truth

Day 5: Reread Chapter 3

Verse 6-7: LADIES sit on these verses and meditate on them day and night. What does God want you and I to learn about weak-willed woman.

Verse 16: All Scripture is God-breathed and useful! This is a good memory verse.

Day 6: Reread Chapter 4

Verse 1: Big reminder: Jesus Christ, will judge everyone, the living and the dead.

Verse 3: Big Warning: The time will come and has come when people will not put up with sound doctrine but will desire to have what their itching ears want to hear.

What do you want to hear?

Verse 7: I RECOMMEND YOU WRITE THIS VERSE ON AN INDEX CARD AND MEMORIZE TO HELP YOU AND ENCOURAGE YOU THROUGHOUT LIFE:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Verse 9: Have you ever needed a friends’ help quickly? Have you ever been blessed to be that good friend who was able to be there when needed? Notice how Paul is strong and encouraging but is not ashamed or too proud to ask for help.  We read his request for help again in verse 21 as he asks Timothy, “Come before winter!”

Verse 18: Paul states his confidence in the Lord as he tells us of his deliverance and rescue from the evil one.

Be encouraged God is still in the deliverance and rescuing business of our lives.

How are you and God doing? I’d like to hear from you.
