“The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Has anyone ever misquoted you or misunderstood what you were saying or not saying?

How do you feel when others believe a lie or the gossip being spread around about you?

A funny thing happened to me this week. I was totally unaware a hacker broke into my Twitter account and sent out a false message on “how to lose weight” to all of my followers on Twitter. I had no idea that it even happened until my daughter called and said, “Hey, Mom what’s the deal on the push for this Weight-Loss Program on Twitter?”

Then I went to my email and saw a notice from Twitter saying, “We have noticed that someone has broken into your account and changed your password for your protection…”

My first thought was:  “Oh no! Now all those people think I was pushing that Program. That is not right. Those were not my words. The followers read lies and do not know the truth about this situation. I did not say that. That is not who I am.”

Then the Holy Spirit said to me in my innermost parts loud and clear (Psalm 51:6), ”NOW YOU KNOW WHAT THE WORLD DOES TO GOD AND HIS WORD ON A DAILY BASIS!”

Whoa! Wake up call. The Holy Spirit was absolutely right.

Every moment is a teachable moment with God. So, even in this scenario what the devil meant for evil God made for good. (Genesis 50:19-20) I decided to change the hackers’ Twitter message into a Devotional for God!

Today’s questions:

  • Do you and I recognize lies from the truth?
  • Do you and I know and accept that there is an absolute truth.

Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and Life. (John 14:6)

Truth is a person and the person is Jesus Christ.

Psalm 33:4

“The word of the Lord holds true, and everything he does is worthy of our trust.”

I am constantly reminded that no matter what is on the TV News, all media, Newspaper, Radio, Hollywood movies and documentaries, Facebook, Twitter or websites, blogs or Newsletters I need to use godly wisdom and discernment from God and seek His true wisdom on every detail. (Job 12:13) This includes my own blogs and all Christian sites as well. Are the writers following the truth written in Scripture? As a matter of fact, are your Church and Pastor being true to Scripture?

Just because someone said it or printed it doesn’t mean it is true. I need to seek the truth in God’s Word, pray against deception (1 Corinthians 3:18), listen and wait on the Lords answer and then make my decision. Look up the Bible references for your own consideration and confirmation.

Keep me, yourself and others accountable!

“The Bible is God’s message to everybody. We deceive ourselves if we claim to want to hear His voice but neglect the primary channel through which it comes. We must read His Word. We must obey it. We must live it, which means rereading it throughout our lives!”

—Elizabeth Elliott

How do we begin seeking God for discernment?

Here is an acronym to help you remember what to do for your decision-making:

SPLASH

  • Seek God (Matthew 6:33)
  • Pray to God (Philippians 4:6)
  • Listen and wait on the Lord (Proverbs 1:23 and Psalm 27:14)
  • Ask God for wisdom and understanding  (Matthew 7:7)
  • Shape your decision according to Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

I am convinced that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him. (Romans 8:28) I encourage you today to always seek God’s true wisdom and strength and the blessing of peace and hope will be yours. (James 3:17-18)

Psalm 119:105

“Thy Word is a light onto my feet and a light unto my path.”

Philippians 4:8

“Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable—if anything
is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.”
