Over the past dozen years or so I’ve had the honor of being invited into the private world of more millennials than I can count. We’ve met in coffee shops, restaurants, conference rooms, and living rooms, yet every encounter has shared one thing in common: the sheer joy of a three-way conversation between me, Jesus, and one of His girls.

Over the years I began to realize that He is really the one doing the mentoring. Even though I show up, listen, ask questions, and so on, we’re both keenly aware that it’s His wisdom we’re looking for—and His guidance is what leads to the “aha” moments that bring lasting transformation.

How I wish more women could witness firsthand how beautifully He steps in and guides the process! As a mentor, you are definitely not on your own. Nor do you have to be a theologian or a counselor to mentor someone—the main qualification needed is “just be you, filled with Jesus.” As you keep your Bible handy and your ear tuned to the Spirit, the He will be more than faithful to guide you.

So if you’ve faithfully walked with Jesus for a while, maybe 2017 is the year to move “invite a millennial to coffee” to the top of your to-do list? There’s nothing like pouring into others to increase the flow of passion and purpose in your life!

As for me, I can’t get enough. I just love watching Him work. Each conversation is like a spiritual treasure hunt, as He reveals patterns, replaces lies, and rebuilds a young woman’s life on the foundation of His truth and love. And all it takes to get started is a surrendered heart and an invitation to coffee…to gain a front-row seat to a miracle!

“And when two or three of you are together because of me,

you can be sure that I’ll be there.”

Matthew 18:20 TM

“See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

Isaiah 43:19 NIV
