“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)

I was reading an article about the heart today and found some amazing facts I wanted to share. Here are just a few of the Scientific Research facts:

  • Every day your heart produces enough energy to drive a truck 20 miles.
  • Your heart beats over 100,000 times every day.
  • During an average lifetime, the heart pumps about 1 million barrels of blood which is enough to fill more than 3 super tankers.

Now that is amazing!

No wonder God gives us instructions to take care of our heart. It is so easy for me to take things for granted like my daily heartbeat and how intricate and important it is to God. Our heart was created by God to do amazing things in us so we could live out His plan and purpose  for us.

Heart instructions from God

Love the Lord your God with all your heart (Deuteronomy 6:5)

Search for God with all your heart (Deuteronomy 4:29)

Serve Him with all your heart (Joshua 22:5)

Establish His words in your heart (Job 22:22)

Be strong and let your heart take courage (Psalms 27:14 & 31:24)

Pour out your heart before Him (Psalm 62:8)

I will give you a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26)

Be on your guard so your hearts will not be weighed down (Luke 21:34)

Do not let your heart be troubled (John 14:27)

So that Christ may dwell in your heart (Ephesians 3:17)

Guard your heart (Philippians 4:17)

May the Lord direct your heart (2 Thessalonians 3:5)

Do not harden your heart (Hebrews 3:8)

Purify your heart (James 4:8)

Sanctify the Lord as Christ in your heart (1 Peter 3:15)

To my amazement, I found that the Bible mentions the word heart 963 times. Of course, some of the usages of the word can mean the mind, the will, the emotions or even the inner man as a whole. But no one can deny the importance of the heart to God.

1 Samuel 16:7

“But the LORD said to him, “Pay no attention to how tall and handsome he is. I have rejected him, because I do not judge as people judge. They look at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart.” (GNT)

What we do and say is a product of what lies in your heart. In Matthew 15:18 we read, “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart.”

Do not be deceived my friend. Satan, is the Father of lies and he knows that if he can poison your heart in any small way, then he can overtake your life. The life you live is completely dependent on the condition of your heart.

So, how is your heart condition?

Do you need a heart surgeon?

God is your Creator and The Great Physician.

Spend time with the One who has the power to save and create in you a clean and pure heart. When you do this you will have an indescribable joy-filled heart sustained by your Creator.
