Do you need to break through the obstacles to your spiritual growth? What do you do when you come to a roadblock on your faith journey?

The other day I was driving to an appointment and taking the same route as always when I was abruptly stopped by a roadblock with a sign that said, “Street Closed.” I was so frustrated because the detour made me late for the appointment. Actually, to be gut-honest I was already running behind schedule and didn’t take time to include God in my morning. The day started out in a mess and as I tried to do everything on my own, the more frustrated I became and the worse things got.

Spiritual Growth: How To Keep Your Faith Strong

I’m learning to pay attention to the obstacles I face and choose to overcome them with God’s help. Including God, in my day is the only way I can move forward in my faith.

How about you? Are you willing to pause, and pray to invite Jesus into your schedule and agenda for the day?  You will be amazed how your spirit calms down and you receive the genuine lasting peace of God. Having peace in your life is a sign of spiritual growth.

I firmly believe, you don’t have to do life alone. If you want your faith to grow and become strong you must make the intentional choice to spend time with God. When you spend time with God you will begin to feel His presence and direction for your life.

What God Says About Obstacles and Spiritual Growth

When I was young and immature, I thought God was only for church events, Sunday mornings, weddings, and funerals, but I found out I was wrong. We serve a 24/7 God, who is alive and active in our lives. He cares about our messiness and our dreams. And most of all, he sees us and wants to help us overcome our fears and doubts.

Overcoming the Obstacle of FEAR

False, Evidence, Appearing, Real

In order to identify the areas we need spiritual growth, we must slow down to face our fears and insecurities and listen to God.

How do you fight fear? Over the years, I’ve experienced the power in the Word of God. The Scriptures are true and will not return empty (Isaiah 55:11).  When you spend time in the Word of God with an honest heart, your life will change. Feed your faith and your fears will starve to death!

Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you!”

Overcoming the Obstacle of PRIDE

Overcoming pride may seem impossible, but not with Christ. The First step is to admit that you need help . . . divine guidance. Healing and wisdom can only come to the person who is willing to bow their hearts and knees to the God who created all things and knows all things.

God is asking us to step away from hiding behind all the pride and pretending. He longs for us to be honest. This step forward can actually allow us to invest our energy in changing spiritually and mentally. Having a teachable heart takes a lot of humility, to say where we’re at and what we need to do to have spiritual growth in our lives.

James 4:6 “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Overcoming the Obstacle to ISOLATION

Overcoming isolation and loneliness is the struggle we’re all facing in our lives. Growth doesn’t happen when we are in isolation. We can never become all God intends for us to be living life alone. We need God as our guide and he sends us others to come alongside us to do life together. No matter how hard we try, we cannot flourish in isolation. Seek God and reach out to others who love the Lord.

Pursue the Lord and ask the hard questions. Pray about a godly safe person—who can help you connect and find God in the messiness of your questions, doubts, and confusion. Make a commitment to breakthrough whatever hinders your spiritual growth.

Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

How Important Is Your Spiritual Growth

I believe having a guide in your life isn’t just a nice idea, but is critical for your growth—professionally, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. Coaching and mentoring can make the difference between success and significance.

Let’s commit together that when we stand before God one day, we’ll be able to joyously say, “I used everything You gave me, Lord to overcome the obstacles to deepen my spiritual growth.

No more unused talent or hidden fears. Now is the time for overcoming our pride or isolation.

Let’s pray for God’s help and guidance.

Heavenly Father, what a gift to know You forgive me and love me no matter what fears and weaknesses I have hidden deep inside of me. Please move in my soul and help me grow spiritually strong. I surrender my brokenness. Today, I’m laying all of my worries at the foot of the cross. I choose Your truth and the gift of forgiveness. I long to walk in victory in overcoming the obstacles to my spiritual growth. In the name of my Rescuer and Protector, Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.
